Luke 9:10-17 (NLT). 10 After a while the twelve came back to Jesus and told them what they had done. Jesus wanted to be alone with them, so they went away and went to a town called Bethsaida. 11 But the crowds knew where he was going and followed him. Jesus spoke to them gently and taught them about the kingdom of God and healed those who were sick. 12 When evening came, the twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowds away, so that they can buy food and stay in the villages and farms around here, because there is nothing to buy in this desert country.” 13 Jesus answered, “Give them something to eat.” “How?” they asked. “We have only five loaves and two fish. Should we go and buy food for all these people?” 14 For there were about five thousand men. “Tell the crowds to sit down on the ground,” he said. “In groups of fifty.” 15 So the disciples did as he said. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish, Jesus looked up to heaven and gave thanks to God. Then he broke off pieces and gave them to his disciples, who carried them to the crowd. 17 There was enough for everyone, and there were still twelve baskets full of broken pieces left over.
